Abraham, a man who was called and set apart by the Lord to become one who ushers in the Kingdom of Heaven upon this earth. Why would the creator of the universe use such a man full of human frailty but yet charged by Heaven? Why would the Lord use any man or woman for that matter? What separates some from others? I propose that the Lord specifically sows many into the earth to achieve supernatural purposes; Abraham being one of a line of many into eternity to serve purposes beyond themselves, possessing attributes infused by heaven. Those chosen of God before the foundations of this world ever being established and being supernaturally preserved for eternities purposes.
I want to explore the link between the sovereign will of the Lord and those whom the Lord has eternally predestined to sonship. The Lord’s desire in all of this of course is to see heaven clearly manifest upon the earth and rightful dominion restored.
SERVING ETERNAL PURPOSES
Abraham, like many that would follow after him; was not a random selection by the Lord and although considered righteous because of his faith in the Lord, other aspects of selection may also have been in play. Coming from the city of Ur of the Chaldeans, which was in all probability, one of the largest trading cities of the day with a total population of approaching sixty thousand people.
Abraham despite living in a society dominated by idol worship, received very clear instructions from the Lord to get out of his country. Impartation coming to him in the form of dreams, visions and actual physical visitations clearly on unprecedented levels not generally recorded in history. Truly divine encounters. I am of the belief that Abraham’s selection was ultimately to serve eternal purposes; that being to establish a lineage that would usher in God’s son Jesus Christ. It is also apparent from the scriptural material provided, that Abraham had some very human ungodly characteristics such as questions involving morality and truth. Nevertheless the Lord clearly choose him despite these issues of character. This aspect of the Lord’s selection would play out on an ongoing basis countless times throughout the word of God.
I suspect the Lord’s choosing is to accent the fact that the His glory is perfected in mankind in order that no human could boast in his ability to perform it. One endearing attribute always in being qualified is that many are called but few chosen Matthew 22:14 is the aspect of positioning. One becomes positioned by full surrendering their hearts and will unto the Lord in the ultimate act of love serving eternities purposes manifested first in heaven but fulfilled upon the earth.
Luke 22:42. Christ, of course, is the ultimate example of surrender and total love of the Father. Abraham possessed this divine understanding that his life and the life of his seed to come, was not his own but rather out of his communion with the Lord, out of love, served a purpose beyond his natural existence that would stretch into eternity. The parallel between Abraham and his son and the Father and Jesus cannot be ignored here. It was as if Abraham knew and understood what was to take place out of such a oneness with the Father that heaven must intervene in the affairs of man to see the Kingdom come. Such intervention was completely demonstrated in Abraham’s life and continues to be demonstrated throughout scripture and beyond into our lives today. Does the Lord continue to intervene in the affairs of mankind for eternities purposes? The answer is an unequivocal and resounding yes!
THE REALM OF FAITH INFUSING MANKIND
Abraham exemplified what could be best described as an unwavering demonstration of trust in his Lord in the face of apparently insurmountable barriers and opposition; this obviously became a great lesson for all of us to live in and through in our own walk with the Lord. Ignoring natural considerations Abraham pressed forward through situations that would stagger and overwhelm others and cause them to faint and turn from such challenges.
I describe such faith as being supernaturally given to achieve what the Father has willed not what we have willed. When faith is actioned in accordance with heaven I believe an infusion by the grace of the Lord takes place. Heaven quite literally comes behind and pushes past barriers of opposition, heaven is always opposed in the earthly realm. Flowing out of such intimacy knowing of course that the Lord would in all circumstances honour HIS word causing something quite natural to be infused by the supernatural.
Which comes first? The Lord required and requires all to step first into the supernatural realm of faith before heaven infuses it. Or the latter that heaven is the place that releases supernatural faith to allow us to then walk supernaturally. Is it the horse and then the cart or the cart followed by the horse? Either way, Abraham being the father of faith, exemplifies this characteristic of heaven. I completely believe that when we are called according to His plans and purposes (Romans 8:28) and achieve HIS mandate heaven completely and totally propels us into the realm of the supernatural faith.
Revelation and understanding of the Father’s heart divinely discerned out of intimacy with HIM, became the catalyst to the realm of faith Abraham walked in. Intimacy with HIM is the key that unlocks every door into the realm of the supernatural experience for and into Kingdom purposes. Scripture declares that the Lord's eyes look to and fro throughout the earth to find a man to show Himself approved in. (2 Chronicles 16:9). The question remains whether the Lord has, in advance of need, sown these very seeds throughout the earth and “in the process of time” draws upon that seed to germinate within HIS perfect plan. The fundamental criteria for the selection of the Lord is a relationship with HIM. For many are called but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14). Knowing HIM through trust in HIM will release the realm of faith. Abraham possessed it.
Abraham was and is a most interesting personality who defied natural considerations to press forward into the Lord’s heavenly plans and purposes. By doing so, out of intimacy with the Lord, the Kingdom of heaven advanced upon the earth. Heavens’ intervention in the affairs of man continually was demonstrated in Abraham’s life. I would propose that the Lord knew exactly what HE was getting in HIS man called Abraham simply because he was identified as a seed of righteousness. That seed of righteousness propels humanity onwards and into eternity. I have no quantitative or empirical evidence but I do believe Abraham knew exactly what would take place in the future or had an overwhelming sense that the promises made by the creator of the universe would be totally and completely fulfilled. The final theme of all this is that the Lord stands ready to always fulfill HIS word on each and every occasion when heaven is activated through faith in HIM and His everlasting love for us. I believe that the Lord has always had agents of change on the earth propelling us towards the ultimate conclusion of Kingdom purposes. Much love!
