Can you see it? In my mind's eye, I can almost imagine what it looks like. The Glory of The Lord and the shimmering light that it emanates. Truly his Glory is what every one of us, as Christians desire to see. In the words of David our heart cries, "To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary." Ps 63:2
I believe I stumbled on a nugget of revelation that made me want to just stop and just thank God for sharing something like this with a mortal such as I. Maybe you already got this, but it just ignited something in my spirit.
Oh Lord show me your glory! Where do we find the Glory of the Lord in the Old Testament? You might answer, "It was found in the Holy of Holies." My response would be, "But where did it rest?" You might answer again and tell me, "It was between the two cherubim's." I would ask you one final question, "What did it hover over? Or where does his Glory rest?" The Mercy Seat.
Gods' greatest masterpiece was not the Grand Canyon or the Milky Way. God places his glory over his greatest masterpiece, that being the restoration and reconciliation project of fallen man. This thing the Bible says the Angels desire to look into and from it songs spring that their angelic mind cannot imagine nor tongue can sing.
There is not a creation, like the work of Mercy. God's greatest Glory is seen in his power to save a wretch like you and I. God's greatest work was not Calvary. Calvary was the process to produce the product. The product of his amazing power is the reconciliation of man to himself. To take a drunken man and make him stone cold sober and to take a filthy dreamer and give him a heavenly vision, that is where his Glory is. Mercy! is where you see the Glory of the Lord. The Glory of the Lord! Look where it was and the picture it paints for us now.
The Glory of the Lord was not at the Altar of Sacrifice, it was not at the Laver of Water or even the Golden Candlesticks, but the place where the Glory rested was found in the only seat in his house. The only place where God's glory is seen is in mercy and love. I know one day we will face Christ in the Judgment seat, but now today, His Glory rests in Mercy and love.
Think about this. If in the Old Covenant Gods Glory rested on the Mercy seat, how much more is Mercy magnified in the New Covenant? Without a doubt, his Glory would not have been seen outside of the Holy Place. Without a doubt you could not get there without going through the rituals of cleansing and sacrifice, however, one without the other would produce the same result. No Glory. That is where most of the Church is today.
If we are to exemplify a Holy attitude, it is not found in the upturned nose and the critical eye. The favour of God is found in a place of holiness that is centred on Mercy. I believe God honours our efforts; in fact, the scripture commands us, "Perfecting holiness in the fear of God." Without a doubt there does seem to be a dearth of true consecration being preached and promoted. It seems there are two songs being played, but neither is producing the ultimate purpose.
You have one ideology that only knows about love. On the other hand, you have those that can only speak of holiness. Sadly I think neither contingent really understands. They believe that holiness or love is the product of what they seek. Holiness is not the product, love is not the product, but they are both processes that produce what we are supposed to seek. So often people don't know what they are supposed to be aiming for and come up short from where God wants them to be. The ultimate goal is to see humanity saved and then in this we will see the Glory of God.
The Mission of the Church is to reach the world it is not to wallow in self-pity wow is me attitude. It is not to sell cookies, wash cars, build buildings or even provide education for children. The purpose of the Church is to preach the Gospel to every creature, to go, to send and by all means reach and help people to come to a saving knowledge of the truth. Again it is our aim, we can do all kinds of projects and programs, but the aim is not a successful program, but a saved soul. Our efforts do not produce the Glory of God. His Mercy and love produce the Glory of God. I think many times his Glory is seen not because of what we do, but in spite of what we do.
All of the Old Testament Sacrifices and even the New Covenant was centred on one goal, saving lost and wayward men and reconciling them back to God. How do you view your brother? If it is not with mercy and love, you are revealing your unclean and unholy attitude for what it is. How do you view the lost? If it is not with mercy and, you again reveal your carnal and corrupt understanding if it is not through the lens of mercy.
Jesus said, "You will be known for the love you have…" I have seen glimpses of his Glory, but let me prophesy to you today. There is coming a day, where we will see his love like never before flowing in his Church. There is a Revival of Love coming to his Church. You have no idea what God’s love will do but it is not a loosey-goosey love that accepts sin in the church. It is a wholly consecrated love where sin will not and cannot stand in His presence. It is going to be coupled with the natural consecration that will accompany people who truly love Jesus and want their lives to please him. The sign of this revival will be his Glory. In this Glory cloud miracles, signs and wonders will be done in a way and on a scale like never before. What we must do is not pray for Glory, but seek his mercy. If we will find his mercy and the spirit of it, his Glory will show up. Imagine the Great Revelation of God. God so loved you, to save you from yourself. If God can do that for you, should we not show that same love toward those who at times oppose themselves and even our efforts. If God did not stop reaching, who are we to say we are through trying? We reflect His Holiness by the Spirit of Mercy that flows from us to others.
The Glory of God is found in Mercy!
Eph 3:17-21, 1 Pet 1:11-18.
